Q. Where can we have our wedding?A. Outdoors, in a church, a hall, a restaurant, a private home, a park, beside the lake, living room, or in in other words, the place you hold your wedding is entirely up to you, the couple being married.I can go anywhere you want. If the location is 50+ miles away from Sturgeon Bay, there is a charge for mileage.
Q. What is the purpose of having "readings" performed during a wedding ceremony?A. Readings can be quite lovely and help to remind us of the importance of commitment, couple hood, love and romance. Often these poems, readings, sonnets or text can express these thoughts and emotions far better than we can. Readings are not a "must have" but they can be nice. It's a great way to involve your family or witnesses.
Q. What is the process for obtaining a marriage license?A. In Door County apply at the County Clerk's office 421 Nebraska St, Sturgon Bay WIWHEN TO APPLYApplication must be made at least 5 FULL days before ceremony since a 5-day waiting period is required before license can be issued. License is valid for 30 days from issuance date.Special Dispensation: A 5-day waiting period is required by law, but may be waived for an additional $10.00 fee.FEES: $65.00 is the marriage license fee. There is an additional $10.00 fee to waive the waiting period.AGE: Any person who has attained the age of 18 years may marry. If a person is between the ages of 16 years and 18 years, the license will be issued only with written consent of parents, guardian or custodian. Consent forms are available in the Clerk’s Office, 421 Nebraska, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235REQUIREMENTS:A. Both applicants must apply in person.B. Applicants must present a CERTIFIED copy of their birth certificate with a raised seal affixed by the Register of Deeds. If the birth certificate is in a foreign language, it must be translated in English and certified by a translator - No Exceptions.[S.S. 765.09(3)](Hospital Birth Certificates and State Notification of Birth Registration are NOT acceptable; they are not legal documents.)C. If previously married, present signed copies of judgement of divorce, court annulment papers, or death certificate,in Enlgish, from last marriage. Divorce must be final a minimum of 6 months.D. Name of officiant, date, and location of ceremony. E. Social Security Number. Cannot issue Marriage License without number.)F. Documentary proof of identification and residence. Each party must present photo identification (driver’s license, passport, alien card, school ID, etc.) OR if not current, documentation showing a correct address for proof of residency(rent receipt, checking account, utility bill, etc.).Residency: Application must be made in the county where one or both parties has resided for at least 30 days.If both parties are residents of another state, application must be made in the county where the ceremony will be held.WITNESSES: Two witnesses, age 18 or over, are required, in addition to person officiating, but do not have to be in the wedding party. Note: A pre-marital physical or blood test is not required in Wisconsin. |
